A group of GGIS faculty and graduate students attended the West Lakes Regional Division AAG Annual Meeting at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville this past weekend and all three students won awards in the Student Paper Competition!

🥉 Wataru Morioka took third place in the PhD paper competition.
Paper title: "Influence of the change in the distribution of floating population due to COVID-19 pandemic on the distribution of retail outlets"

🥉 Andrea Pimentel Rivera took third place in the Master's paper competition.
"Opposing powers at the helm and the (im)mobilities of maritime transportation service in Vieques, Puerto Rico"

🥇 Lauren Weber took first place in the Master's paper competition and won the AAG Council Award for Outstanding Graduate Student Paper, which includes funding to attend the 2023 AAG Annual Meeting.
"Crisis, carcerality, and the real estate state: Portland, Oregon’s jail-to-shelter conversion"
