2020 Edward L. Ullman Award

Congratulations to Professor Julie Cidell on receiving the 2020 Edward L. Ullman Award from the Transportation Geography Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers.

Among transport geographers, Cidell has led efforts to link transport geography with mobilities and urban studies. She co-edited the book Transport, Mobility, and the Production of Urban Space (Routledge, 2015), and her forthcoming textbook is entitled An Introduction to Transportation Geography: Transport, Mobility, and Place (Rowman and Littlefield).

Cidell also led a Spring 2020 Graduate Seminar entitled “Mobility Justice,” where she and students examined the three major mobility challenges of the 21st century: climate change, migration, and urbanization.

She will formally accept the award and present the Douglas Fleming Lecture at the 2021 AAG Annual Meeting in Seattle.
