Sid Kenyon (BA ‘13; MUPP, ‘15, UIC) visited campus last week and had lunch with current GGIS majors. He shared how a geography degree helped prepare him for a career in the field of transportation planning. Kenyon currently works as a senior transportation planner for the County of DuPage in Illinois, where he focuses on infrastructure development and manages the county’s network of bicycle and hiking trails. He gave students practical advice on developing and achieving their career goals after graduation.

“Geography was a fabulous prelude to urban planning.  I got acquainted with the theoretical ways in which planners and geographers conceive of what spatial forces drive human settlement.  Some of the theoretical material that I was exposed to in transportation and human geography courses at Illinois was reinforced during my graduate coursework.”
