The Department of Geography & GIScience is thrilled to announce that we have officially moved into the beautifully renovated Natural History Building (NHB)! We invite you to check out the building’s stunning new spaces:
- modern research laboratories for GIS, remote sensing, and fluvial geomorphology
- interactive teaching and learning spaces
- SESE student commons
Our faculty and staff offices and the Russell Room are located on the southern half of the second floor, and our graduate student spaces and research labs are just below, on the first floor.

There will be an open house during Illinois Homecoming on Saturday, October 28 and later a formal re-dedication ceremony on Saturday, November 4th. Further details can be found here.
We are still settling into this new home, and already see a bright future of collaboration between faculty and students, and with departments and colleagues in the School of Earth, Society, and Environment (SESE). SESE occupies the southern half of the building, and the School of Integrative Biology (SIB) has moved into the northern half.
