Geography & Geographic Information Science is proud to announce that Professor and Department Head Sara McLafferty has received the 2015 Melinda S. Meade Distinguished Scholarship Award in Health and Medical Geography, from the Association of American Geographers (AAG) Health and Medical Geography Specialty Group (HMGSG). The award was presented to Dr. McLafferty at the 2015 AAG Annual Meeting in Chicago.

The HMGSG decided to offer Sara the award to recognize her as “a prominent leader in the field of health and medical geography,” and for her "tremendous contributions to research, teaching, and service in the field for decades." The Award seeks to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of health and/or medical geography research. Recipients of the Award will be invited to present a Distinguished Health and Medical Geography Lecture at the AAG annual meeting the year after receiving the Award.
