Eric Shook  is an associate professor in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Society and Director of the GeoCommons at the University of Minnesota. We welcomed Eric back to campus on November 8th, 2024 to accept the award and present his research during Friday colloquium with a talk entitled "Broadening Geospatial Computing: Innovation Meets Education". Eric also got to spend time with former advisor Shaowen Wang and students in the Cyberinfrastructure & Geospatial Information (CIGI) Lab.

Eric’s research combines geographic information science and computational science in an area called geospatial computing. He also currently serves as Vice-Chair of Education and Board of Director member for the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS).

“It has been a true pleasure to witness Eric’s evolution from a highly motivated student into an outstanding scholar in the field. His innovative contributions and passion for advancing and sharing knowledge have earned him this well-deserved departmental recognition and I couldn’t be prouder of his achievements,” said Wang.
